The Natchez Trace CollectionSupplement, 1775-1965, consists of personal letters, plantation inventories,receipts, slave documents, business correspondence and documents, and family-relateddocuments generated by early settlers of the lower Mississippi Valley. The bulk ofthe collection comes from antebellum Mississippi and Louisiana, with Natchez, NewOrleans, and territorial material.

Stephen Duncan was a planter and banker of Natchez, Mississippi. Abijah Hunt, a native of New Jersey, formed a business partnership with his brothers Jeremiah and Jess Hunt, and Elijah Smith. He came to Natchez in 1798 as a sutler, or licensed merchant, for the United States Army stationed along the lower Mississippi River.
